Over mij

Raised in the beautiful village of De Zilk (South Holland; 1964), I came to live in Hilversum via Amsterdam.

I graduated as a psychologist (1989) with a focus on Health Psychology and Geropsychology. In 1998, I completed a Master’s in Health Services Research, and in 2002, I earned my PhD with research on Waiting Lists in Nursing Homes. I started working as a researcher in Amsterdam in 1989 (at the VU hospital, the AMC, and later VUmc).

Currently, I am working at Amsterdam UMC, VUmc location, as a coordinator and lecturer for the dementia case management training and as a lecturer for several other dementia-related courses at Gerion. I am also a senior researcher at the Department of Geriatric Medicine on projects with themes around the collaboration between general practitioners and geriatric specialists for frail older people and around behavioral signals.

In addition, I work at Leiden UMC as a senior researcher on the MASQUE project, where we conduct research into sensor technology in clothing to enable early detection of stress in people with dementia or with intellectual disabilities, with the aim of deploying the right care in a timely manner.

Starting in January 2020, I launched my own company with the goal of serving as a bridge between science and practice in the field of effective (eHealth) support for dementia.

I am a member of the European network INTERDEM, which consists of researchers in the field of psychosocial interventions for people with dementia. I am also a member of the INTERDEM website committee and the INTERDEM Taskforce Supporting Technology.

I am involved in the founding of the JAIN Foundation, and am now a board member (treasurer) and chairman of (inter)national challenges for the best prototype or product with the aim of improving the quality of life of people with dementia and their loved ones and relieving the pressure on healthcare providers.

Furthermore, I am the chairman of the National Platform of Meeting Centers Foundation (LPOCD) i.o. Meeting centers offer low-threshold support in the neighborhood for people with dementia and their caregivers.

Additionally, I am a member of the recognition committee for interventions in long-term care (Vilans).

In my free time, I try to enjoy a social (family, friends) and sporty (tennis, cycling, Zumba) life. And I also love to bake.😊
